Facebook acquired Giphy, the most popular search engine, and database for animated images. The tech giant Facebook did not disclose the amount of this deal but said in a blog post that now Giphy will become a part of its photo-sharing platform- Instagram. According to Facebook, nearly 50 percent of Giphy’s traffic comes from the most popular Facebook-owned apps like Whatsapp and Instagram.

Some of the apps that use Giphy to offer fun and creative stickers to their users are now concerned about privacy issues. Since Facebook services have got some privacy and reliability issues, apps like iMessage, Tiktok, and Mailchimp are concerned about the privacy of their users. In some social media platforms, there is a request to delete Giphy as users don’t want Facebook to have another way of accessing their personal information.

Signal, which lets you search for GIFs to send in messages, also source animated images from Giphy. Before the acquisition also, the app was using Giphy in privacy protection mode and will continue to do so. All the signal users need not worry since Facebook might not get any data from the Signal app.

Apart from Signal, various social media sites and apps like Tinder, Tiktok, Twitter, Trello, Snapchat, and Telegram use Giphy to source animated images for their users. Some of them already let you log in with your Facebook account so it’s not anything new to them.

Since Facebook had been involved with privacy concerns for two years, we hope it will take care of its user’s privacy and this collaboration would turn exciting for every app. Considering the fact that Facebook will keep everything encrypted and safe, we are looking forward to this acquisition!
