Apple recently announced product and policy changes that are sure to impact data sharing amongst iOS users. According to the new policy changes, there are certain limits on advertising which will have an impact on the growth of businesses and free internet. We think that free, ad-supported businesses have always been vital for the development of the internet. User privacy and personalised ads can coexist. Data transparency should be supported, but somehow, we disagree with Apple’s changes in policies and product.

Impact on personalised ads
The changes proposed by apple will significantly put restrictions on the ability to reach, understand and engage more and more people on mobile devices. The change policies will impact your ability to control who sees your ads, performance and make the right decisions about advertising budgets. You may notice an overall decrease in ad performance, ad personalisation, and there will be an increase in cost/action.

Apple’s changes will limit marketers ability to-
Deliver ads to people effectively
Measure conversions from customers
Predict and optimise cost per action
Effectively allocate budgets
Ensuring that ads are delivered to the relevant audience

After the news came out, Facebook urged Apple to think of small businesses and protested against the changes. Running print ads in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and holding a press conference consisting of owners of small and mid-sized businesses.

However, Apple is saying that they are just taking a stand on the privacy of its users. They are concerned about them; users should know when their data is being collected and getting shared across websites and other apps. Apple thinks their users should have a choice whether they want to allow personal data to be shared or not. Transparency policy in iOS doesn’t require FB to change its methods and approach of targeting users; it merely requires iOS users to give a choice.
